Metal only. It excludes making charges, hallmarking and GST. For what a jeweller would actually bill, use the jewellery price calculator.

What this does and does not include

This calculator gives you the metal value: weight multiplied by the rate for that purity. It is the right number for valuing what you already own, for checking a gold loan estimate, or for working out roughly what a piece would fetch on resale.

It is the wrong number for a purchase. A jeweller’s bill adds making charges, a hallmarking fee and GST on top, which together usually come to 12–20% above the metal value. For that figure use the jewellery price calculator.

How making charges and wastage are calculated

Common questions

How do you calculate the value of gold?
Multiply the weight in grams by the rate per gram for that purity. A 10 gram 22K chain at ₹14,187 per gram holds ₹1,41,870 of metal. That is the metal value, not the price a jeweller charges, which adds making charges and GST.
How many grams is one tola?
One tola is 11.6638 grams. A sovereign, called a pavan in south India, is 8 grams.
Will a jeweller pay this much for my old gold?
No. On resale a jeweller pays for the metal only, and usually deducts for purity testing and refining loss. You do not recover the making charges you originally paid.
